Get detailed information on the Enterprise Storage Server (ESS) Copy Services functions and the procedure required to implement these functions in an open systems environment. Perform a FlashCopy and set up a Peer-to-Peer Remote Copy (PPRC) volume copy within a configured ESS. Study the methods for performing these functions using the ESS Copy Services interface and the Command Line Interface (CLI).

Hands-On Labs

Eight labs are included to address:

  • IBM TotalStorage ESS Specialist navigation
  • ESS Copy Services interface
  • ESS Copy Services CLI interface for AIX
  • ESS Web Copy Services CLI interface for Windows
  • ESS Copy Services for PPRC
  • using the PPRC secondary volume
  • establishing FlashCopy relationships in AIX
  • performing backup and recovery using FlashCopy

Labs are performed using the Web and CLI interfaces only.

Skills taught

  • Identify the ESS Copy Services functions of the ESS
  • Describe the setup and installation requirements for the ESS Copy Services and the CLI interfaces
  • Describe the procedures required to implement PPRC for open systems
  • State the advantages of PPRC for redundancy and recovery
  • Perform a PPRC volume copy within a configured ESS
  • State the advantages of FlashCopy for redundancy and recovery
  • Describe the ESS Copy Services function of FlashCopy
  • Describe the configuration requirements for FlashCopy
  • Describe the procedures required to implement FlashCopy for open systems Logical Unit Numbers (LUN)
  • Perform a FlashCopy of a Small Computer System Interface (SCSI) LUN in an ESS
  • Access the target LUN in from the host system

Course outline

ESS Copy Services overview

  • describe the functions provided by ESS Copy Services for the open systems platforms
  • describe the basic setup required by the Customer Engineer (CE) to enable these functions
  • describe the interfaces used to invoke these functions from a tenet user session or Web session

Copy Services CLI

  • describe the functions provided by the ESS Copy Services CLI
  • use the ESS Copy Services interface to create tasks and view the graphical display of volumes and paths
  • use the CLI for AIX-attached hosts to test the connection and obtain volume status
  • use the CLI for Windows hosts to test the connection and obtain volume status

PPRC overview

  • describe the functions provided by PPRC for the open systems platform
  • set up paths between Logical Subsystems (LSS) in the ESS so that PPRC pairs can be created
  • set up a PPRC volume pair and synchronize the volumes
  • use the PPRC secondary volume on a host and show how to access the volume on another host system

ESS Copy Services advanced topics

  • describe the procedures for accessing data on the target host for PPRC of FlashCopy
  • use the FlashCopy Web interface to execute tasks and set up a FlashCopy relationship between volumes in the same LSS and access the data on the target volume for AIX and Windows hosts
  • use the performp as a backup and recovery of the data using that volume

PREREQUISITES:
