What is ADDAM?

The Advanced Document Distribution and Access Management server (ADDAM) is J2EE compliant server software designed to facilitate efficient distribution, archive and management of your corporate ERP and CRM production data output and is the product of evolution for the RIGCI Print services team. When data is submitted to the system, it is conditioned and indexed if need be. Internally ADDAM processes data in IBM's AFP Data Stream format. ADDAM manages the data stream based on index values, such as account numbers, in its archiving system. The server is modularized allowing ADDAM to smoothly integrate with your existing IT infrastructure. It can automatically extract, transform and bundle client data into a package to be distributed to clients. This client data can be distributed in a number of formats. (e.g. PDF, HTML, TIF, PCL, AFP and others). The ADDAM WebApp allows online server clients to control all aspects of their own profiles, from login password to preferred data formats for delivery. ADDAM will distribute the bundled files by e-mail, web application (ADDAM or other), fax servers or to your print management server and on to hard copy. This allows you to print only what you want, when you want it, effectively enhancing the commercial print operations environment and cost effectiveness. Because ADDAM can function automatically, the server software can extract and distribute the required documents at any time, allowing you to take full advantage of your system's off hours.

With our latest release, version 1.4, ADDAM provides a modularized solution with two main components; the core server, ADDAM Commandline and the ADDAM WebApp application server for online access and management. Commandline provides an XLM and command line Operations interface that allows for scriptable access to all server functionality. WebApp provides web browser access and control. RIGCI is currently in the process of extending the functionality of ADDAM WebApp, providing multiple levels of Internet access to cover all aspects of the system. Scheduled for completion this year, the new WebApp will provide Operations and Support staff with a web-based interface for performing administration, operations and support tasks. RIGCI also offers a hosted ADDAM based and hard copy document distribution system service. In concert with Canada Post, RIGCI staff administers the service for you at our facilities, while your company is provided the financial and technical benefits of the RIGCI Print team. For more information and pricing for these and any other RIGCI Services, please contact us. Targeted printing and distribution means a more efficient print shop.

The ADDAM Advantage. The core ADDAM engine, Commandline, is a command line driven set of utilities that are configured via XML. Each ADDAM Utility is accessible as either an independently run process or within a batch process, providing your IT staff with the flexibility necessary for designing a functional operating environment. The right tools for the job: the ADDAM Utilities.

The right tools for the job: the ADDAM WebApp.
ADDAM Commandline v1.4 uses IBM's DB2 database for reliable information control. This base server system can be implemented alone and provide the complete range of ADDAM distribution and management capabilities for your corporate information systems. Commandline is also the functional base for RIGCI's GUI interface to the system, ADDAM WebApp v1.4. The Internet application is built on IBM's WebSphere software, and provides a secure graphic environment for server management and access.

The right tools for the job: the ADDAM CVA.
ADDAM is not only great at providing online data access, but will also provide you with the ability to generate and browse CD-ROMS. Called the CD-ROM Application Viewer, CVA, this ADDAM package includes the server-side CD generation functionality coupled with a secure CVA client. The ADDAM CVA is ideal for customer support and/or CD-ROM archiving purposes.
Plug-in and run.
As ADDAM is designed to enhance existing IT environments, with limited modifications to existing applications, it can be up and running in as little as one working day. A major reason ADDAM is so easily implemented is that there is no output re-design required. ADDAM uses all AFP resources. ADDAM functions directly with:
  • PSF
  • Infoprint Manager
  • Existing line data applications
  • TSM
  • OCÉ Prisma Server
  • E-Mail Servers
  • FTP Servers
  • Fax Servers
  • Desktop Printing Environments

Streamline distribution and management of AFPDS AND non-AFPDS documents.
The ADDAM Utilities are built to provide operation control over any document format, allowing the server to manage your corporate reporting systems and your corporate desktop document systems. With Commandline v1.2, administrators have the ability to configure the server for client specific requirements, aiding in workgroup management and streamlining the distribution of time-sensitive information.
Bundling and Packaging functions enhance all distribution methods.
The Presentation Manager utility of ADDAM pre-packages all distribution requests for client output. For data destined for printed output, this translates to client specific printouts. ADDAM also provides postal/zip code bundling capabilities in order to allow your corporation to take advantage of bulk mailing rates.
All electronic distributions are similarly bundled for output. In the case of e-mail distribution, all client output is packaged within either a .zip or self-extracting .exe compressed file, protected by client password. The ADDAM WebApp v1.2 server also provides output in compressed format. This function minimizes download times, improving the client experience as a result.

Immediate cost savings.
Providing Print On Demand and Content On Demand functionality enhances all ERP processes, making an immediate positive impact where it counts most: the bottom line.
  • Printed output can easily be directed to any attached IPDS or PCL capable printer.
  • Print load reductions result from the ability to print only desired data.
  • Post processing procedures reduced.
  • Electronic distribution cuts out print and mailing costs.
  • Centralized management and access means improved information channels, improved security and improved productivity.

Normalization Process:How many times have you heard, "Well, we have our own proprietary internal data format." What is a proprietary data format and what does it mean to you and your data systems? Obviously a proprietary data format is something that is developed and understood only by the vendor of the product. If there happens to be a problem with this proprietary data format, only the vendor will be able to understand and support it. How does this make you feel? ADDAM's internal data format is AFP, a well documented, widely used standard in the corporate production world. It is a fully composed format that includes its own forms and resources. It is perhaps the most structured and static data format in existence, thus it is easily managed and supported. It is also the traditional print system technology of choice here at RIGCI. The ADDAM Normalization Process begins by converting input data to AFP*. Then, if need be, the process indexes the data according to your specifications. That's it. Clean, simple and light-weight. A sensible solution? We think so.     *ADDAM can manage other data formats such as Post Script without the Normalization Process. Contact us to find out more.
